Wave 94.7 Smooth Jazz….Now Country as of August 1

It’s official.  Country is back on the FM dial as of August 1st.  However, the Smooth Jazz radio sound will now be sent to the internet.   I have a bit of a feeling for this as I was one of the first staff that worked at the Wave 94.7  in their sales and marketing.

August 1st will mark the Smooth Jazz ending on the dial 94.7 but will continue to broadcast online through www.wave.fm.   Vickie Van Dyke, Bob Farrow and Gary James will continue to be the hosts online so you can continue to tune in.

The Hamilton and surrounding market was missing a country sound, so I guess 94.7 Country will welcomed.

I am very disappointed in the switch of 94.7FM to a different format. Country, new or otherwise, will never be on my radio presets, it is boring and predictable no matter how many times it is pushed onto the airwaves. Smooth Jazz was my favourite in my home and vehicles, and has led to new experiences with music and the related artists. I believe it is where I first heard Adele, as she was played on Smooth Jazz months before she was “discovered” by the pop stations. It is with heavy heart that I will be changing those presets now, and although it is good news that the station will be available on-line, it is less convenient for me to access in that form. Good luck Smooth Jazz, and when the “new country” fades from the dial in the near future, I hope that you will return. Thank you.

  2. avatar

too bad..i was a regular listner to smooth jazz….will be tuning out the country…where will we find smooth jazz now?

  3. avatar

You can still listen to the smooth jazz but now only on wave.fm.

  4. avatar

What happened from the best Smooth Jazz station to Countrythats like going from hot to cold. I am very sad….. please come back on air waves
for the people that love Country you are very lucky.
Thanks to all the radio hosts hope to hear you soon on the WAVE 94.7
    Ciao

  5. avatar

So sad to see wave 94.7 leave the airwaves. Will NOT be listening to country. When will Hanilton learn to embrace something good rather than country which has been tried and failed in this market. Hate to see the wave 94.7 go. Good luck to the people @ Wave 94.7 Smooth Jazz. One of the best smooth jazz stations. surpassing 91.1 lately.

  6. avatar

So very disappointed with this country news. I am not sure how these decisions are made, but I for one will not be listening to country!

  7. avatar

I thought radio was broken. Not impressed. Please bring back the only thing I listen to on radio.

  8. avatar

It’s A sad day for a Great Music Station , being a musician from the UK I have always found that people here Don’t give music that they don’t know a CHANCE and that’s a SHAME :( :(

  9. avatar

    Big Mistake!
    Switch back to jazz.

  10. avatar

Will definately not be listening. Hate country. So sad to see one of the best radio stations go. We were regular listeners.

  11. avatar

I’m not to thrilled about it either…
I’m not knocking country, there’s some really great music ou there,
but I preferred the ‘smoothness’ of what was broadcast
I don’t know of any other broadcasts similar, guess I’ll go back to easy listening..???

  12. avatar

I, too, was extremely disappointed to hear of the change to country. I also will NOT be listening to 94.7. The enjoyed listening to jazz on my way to work and again at the end of the day as I cleared my head as I headed home. Wave.fm is great for home, but unfortunately not for the car!

  13. avatar

What were you thinking?? I doubt this move is going to fly. So many of your faithful listeners will be tuning elsewhere. We need / want a more upscale sound. Too bad …

  14. avatar

Well thanks alot. Another fine thing that I enjoy has been taken away from me, by some knothead’s decision. You might as well can this new 94.7 right now, as all of the cowboys are out west.

  15. avatar

Wow! This is really a letdown. At first I thought my radio was playing tricks on me. In Vancouver, the Seattle station I listened to in the car went from Jazz to Rock and now I’m back in Toronto and my favourite station has turned to country!!! What gives? Is country that much more popular than jazz? I love 91.1 but sometimes it can get a little crazy. Wave but nice, constant and current.

I’m very sad and disappointed but will try to tune in online. Not something I do very often but I’ll give it a try on my iPhone.

  16. avatar

Very disappointed, a very soothing station to listen to on my way to and from work. Don’t mind country but only in mild doses.I will definetely be tuning in to another station.

  17. avatar

As an avid listener for over 6 years, this is a terrible disappointment. I spend a lot of time in the car- 94.7 always made great company. Not sure how feasible streaming radio is…and certainly can’t do this while driving- did anyone pole the listeners before reaching this decision? It’s a shame…

  18. avatar

I am very sad and disappointed to see the wave move to country. I have been listening to your station since the beginning and told many people about the kind of music, particularly “Chill” on Friday nights. I will not be switching to country either and will likely not listen to it on my computer either.

  19. avatar

I am devastated! I call out to every Smooth Jazz listener to let their sentiment be known. Why do we need a country format? If that was the case, Wave could have incoporated a country show on the station instead of wiping out the entire format. Also, I strongly feel that Wave did their listeners a disservice by not even having the decency to warn of the change ahead of time. One minute I’m listening to Anita Baker, the next day I turn on my car and it’s country all day long?? Whaat??

I will not be listening to Wave anymore on the airwaves. The medium of the internet alienates a lot of listeners who for the most part listen to the radio in their vehicles. I implore the Management Team to reconsider this unproductive decision.

    I am in mourning.

  20. avatar

I am extremely disappointed about my favorite Jazz radio station. I loved the Music and programs hosted by Dave Koz, Vickie Vandyke and others alike. I, for one, do not enjoy country music and I am not planning to listen to this new radio station. Long live Jazz Baby!

  21. avatar

Like everyone else i can’t believe you decided to change your format! You guys had one of the classiest formats on the airwaves.Unfortunately you will realize this at a later date when your listeners have deserted this station.

  22. avatar

this new station format is crap. now there is no jazz station out there. what drove this change? I find it hard to believe that they weren’t making money given the advertizers

  23. avatar

Awe man…I thought that Wave was the sexiest station going. There is nothing sexy about country. Could they not have moved it to another dial that is not in use. It was such a warm station and such a nice change from the craziness on other dials. Please, bring it back!

  24. avatar

I am very surprised of the change, from soothing jazz to country
    tunes, lets switch back!!!

  25. avatar

I am very sad that the wave has become a country station. the smooth Jazz literally helped me get through my day feeling positive and upbeat. I have discovered so many new artists and have seen some of them at the Living Art Centre. I am devastated as I do not want to listen to country and I can’t find another smooth jazz station. I will not listen online to music. I am shocked.

  26. avatar

Yeah, I noticed. I took it off my presets.

  27. avatar

I too like many many others an still in shock over the switch to Country.
There was no other radio station like Smooth Jazz. It was on my radio all the time. Actually come to find many new different artists that I would not have heard of if it were not for this station. There is no longer a alternative out there. Main stream again.

  28. avatar

Sorry that our favourite radio station the Wave 94.7 f.m. has switched over to Country, we very much enjoyed the Smooth Jazz, which had such a variety.
We are not interested in music online, it was such an enjoyment to take a car trip and listen to 94.7, not any longer, bye bye.

  29. avatar

BIG MISTAKE. Couldn’t you leave the station alone and add country to another new station some down the list. As the saying goes why fix something that isn’t broken. I have listened to the new station and it is sore. I think their is room for both country and smooth jazz in this great country.

    A sad listener.

  30. avatar

what is the alternative besides listenting via internet?

  31. avatar

Really disappointing – It was my only relaxing moment each day – Have tuned in for years and Country just does not do it!

  32. avatar

I am disappointed with your change to country. Smooth Jazz 94.7 was my favourite preset. Now I will have to switch to 91.1 similar but not the same. Why the change? What on earth were you thinking?

    Jim

  33. avatar

Right now, you can choose 91.1Jazz, or look to a Digital Radio station (XM/Sirus) for the smooth jazz options.

  34. avatar

You fools! The only station for young baby boomers now gone. Who care about that country crap. As a ad exec, I can hazard to say you have made a huge mistake.

  35. avatar

I came back from my holidays to find my radio tuned to some country music. I thought my son had switched the dial. To my horror it slowly sunk in that the Wave that I have listened to for the last 10 years has been replaced with country music.
What are you guys thinking! I went up and down the dial today and I cannot find one station that I can listen to!!!!
I feel like a friend has died. I know that some people like country music and that is fine, but it is already all over the dial.
I find country music to be phoney, copy cat city slickers pretending to be cowboys. They put on a cowboy hat and boots and think they are country western singers.Even adding a phoney drawl to their voices because it is all part of the act. They probably have never even been on a farm, rode a horse or even know what horse manure smells like. ITS Phoney and I can’t stand listening to it and I am embarrassed to watch these clowns sing with their serious faces. I guess I made my point.
I loved your smooth jazz and your hosts were top notch. The music was fantastic and had class. There is only one excuss that I could swallow for your change. If you were going under I could understand this desperate act. But if you were making money you need your heads read!
I have never, and I mean never, spoke out on anything like this before.
But I am devistated, my radio is OFF! I can’t put a computer in my shop, car, work, to listen on line.
I think you have made a big economic mistake. Switch back before it is too late.
I am a 59 year old professional and not some nut.

  36. avatar

Can’t believe you’d switch from a more interesting, intelligent and entertaining jazz format to the boring, repetitive country fodder….you had such a good thing caching on in Southern Ontario and let it go.
Thank goodness it at least can be heard in the car via my iPhone!!
    Bad decision….

  37. avatar

I need my Jazz music PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!!! I cant believe you would replace a diamons with a rhinestone.

  38. avatar

I am so disappointed to know that my favourite radio station is off the air. This is a very SAD time for me as 94.7 Smooth Jazz was always a big part of my day. I live in a rural part of Southern Ontario and do not have the internet. I am always on the road and now I will be missing my Fave music next to me. SHAME………

  39. avatar

I hate country and will NEVER never listen to that station. I loved listening to the jazz in my car. I will switch to 91.1

  40. avatar

Totally agree with Fred. What a loss. How inconsiderate of those who decided to take it off.Hope something will be done for us Jazz lovers.

  41. avatar

Thought I had the wrong station on last week in the car. Top notch
smooth jazz station turning to country? Shame on whoever thought
this one up :( No, I don’t want to listen on my phone, let me know
    when you switch it back.

  42. avatar

Totally totally disappointed. Smooth jazz was one of the best stations ever! I dont think you realize the following it had. BAD BAD DECISION. Please switch back. I am so so lost without it. I am sure just like many others.

  43. avatar

Are you kidding me???? changing the only jazz radio station to country, omg. pleas take me off your mailing list, country sucks !!!!

  44. avatar

Yeah, We miss our old country station!! Hurray! Glad its back….Obviously they realized they made a mistake when they changed our old station!
Thank you, word will spread fast thru country fans!

  45. avatar

The name “smooth jazz” is just a made-up marketing term. “Smooth jazz” radio stations play some contemporary jazz, lots of R&B, and some pop. I like a lot of it but hated some of the DJs on 94.7. I’m pretty sure one guy was a Smurph.

Now that it’s gone Country (which is OK… except for the music, the lyrics, and the sense of limited intellect) we are left with Jazz FM 91.1 (some great jazz, some good jazz, and some noisy crap, but all real jazz), Radio Canada 90.3 FM (French but so what – lots of jazz, especially in the evenings, some classical, some pop, some folk, quite a mix – I find lots of new interesting artists there), and CBC 94.1 in the evenings.

I guess it’s a blessing in disguise because it will give me the motivation to rip my contemporary jazz CDs to my MP3 player and run that through my sound system instead of the radio. Just great tunes, no crap, no commercials, and no Smurph.

  46. avatar

LOVE IT COUNTRY! ALL THE WAY

  47. avatar

we miss our one & only Jazz station. We won’t be listening to jazz on our computer as the sound is horrible-how are we supposed to hear your jozz in the car? Did you guys really think about making this huge change?? Hopefully you’ll listen to your old fans of jazz & get rid of the C&w music. Very disappointing. Now we listen to our cd’s.
    Edie & Dave

  48. avatar

Please bring back wave 94.7 the best station ever. Why was it removed, what will i listen to now?

  49. avatar

BIG MISTAKE – we want our jazzback….what good is it online.

  50. avatar

I miss 94.7 Smooth Jazz. I was surprised to hear country all of a sudden coming out of it. It was the only station that my radios can get to clearly here in Toronto.I could listen and relax to the nice selections while driving or at home. Where can I get that now?

94.7 Wave smooth jazz was unique. I hope it returns.

  51. avatar

I can’t believe that my favourite station was taken away. I found your station by accident when you first came on air as a trial run and I’ve haven’t moved the dial on my radio in my car and at home ever since. This is the one station I could have gotten a little of everything. This is the station that made me feel like I was back in Trinidad. You guys brought back memories and now there’s nothing. Country music is nice but unfortunately it’s also very boring and we the jazz lovers hardly have a station to listen to. I’m heart broken. Please get this station back. We the jazz lovers need you. I need you.

  52. avatar

I am crying blues to a jazz beat – best radio station ever for my kind of music is now gone – to be replaced by the only kind of music I cannot appreciate, although I have tried. Devastated.

  53. avatar

I hope someone fills the void that this decision has created. I believe this was a colossal marketing error. You could have fine tuned your programs DJ-wise here and there, but Good Lord we live in the city!!!

  54. avatar

My grandmother and her sisters (my aunts) asked me to come online to see why their favorite station is only playing country music now. they where all regular listeners and that was the only station that ever played in their cars. they are all so very disappointed with this change. I really don’t think this was a good change.

  55. avatar

I think that all you disappointed smooth jazz lovers should band together and bring your voice forward to the powers that be, ask them to perhaps rethink their decision to go country. You all know that if we speak loud enough and come in large numbers, someone has to listen. If there is anyone out there that knows who we can formally register our complaint to ,can you provide it. I want to be first on the list.

  56. avatar

There isn’t much you can do when it comes to a radio station switching formats. It’s really up to the business itself to choose what music they wish to broadcast. As long as they follow the rules of the CRTC with their mandate of playing Canadian Content and to the Broadcast Standards Council (ie. swearing, proper news broadcasts) then they are free to choose any format. You can always voice your issues and concerns to Burlingham Communications (owner and operator of the previous Wave 94.7). It’s key shareholders are owned by Doug and Mary (at least to the best of my knowledge). They are a wonderful couple and I know in my heart they had to of looked at the business model and profits and for them to make this decision was probably a very tough one. Mary and Doug both had a passion for smooth jazz and further were instrumental in getting many Canadian jazz artists their exposure through their Smooth Jazz Awards and even giving air time to those that would normally never have a chance to be heard.

I’m not able to speak on behalf of the station, but I also was very sad to hear it was no longer broadcasting. I worked there in the first month it was on the air, and before there were announcers. I believe I was the 5th person that was hired, and it was such an exciting time to get involved with Smooth Jazz. I loved it so much, i even put my own event together in 2005 with the Niagara Smooth Jazz Festival. http://youtu.be/1xKZwAES-9k

The event was so new and big, that the largest audience was from the USA as Canada wasn’t set for this type of format. I guess it never really was able to make a profit from the onair sales.

  57. avatar

Huge huge mistake. Smooth Jazz was very popular and always on my radio. Now that country has taken the spot, it will NEVER be the station I turn to. My company was just about to advertise on Wave 94.7 but have now changed our minds and will be looking to another station. Wow! I predict you will lose a huge chunk of your listening audience. Worst mistake ever!!!!!!!!!!!!

  58. avatar

Shame on you people. You have done away with what was sophisticated, modern and classy for hillbillies, driving around in their pick up trucks with the confederate flags drapped over the side. So sad and such a shame. Absolutely no progress and no culture. Big mistake!!! Are there not enough country stations already? You people make me sick.

  59. avatar

    why

  60. avatar

I am so disappointed I too thought I had the incorrect station. That is really too bad. I ain’t listening to this country music station. Please advise when you switch back.

  61. avatar

Huh…that’s what the GTA needs…another country station. I fully expect to see another format change at the 94.7 dial in the not so distant future when the programmers realize that switching to country was a big mistake. Hat’s off the the rocket scientists that dreamed up this format change. I can’t listen to the Wave on the Internet while I am driving…so I will just switch to Sirius. Glad to see A.Z. will not be associated with the Wave on the Web…why would anyone with his talent want to be associated with a bunch of losers!

  62. avatar

Hamilton wants country more than smooth jazz…interesting. Now we know why it will never get an NHL hockey team….

  63. avatar

I just returned form vacation to hear “country” on FM 94.7 – very, very disappointed that one of my favourite presets in my car will have to change. I listened to it all the time in the car and at home. Just wondering how I can do that via the internet while travelling at 80 k/hr. . . . too bad to see a fantastic radio station taken off the air! Country is too sappy for me!

  64. avatar

Smooth Jazz had been my favourite radio station for more than 5 years. I don’t know who was the genius behind this switch, but, this station is not anymore in my presets. Good luck with your country!!!!!!!

  65. avatar

I’m crushed are you serious with the likes of not hearing Marvin Gaye, Earth wind and Fire, Barry White, Lou Rawls, Celine Dion etc. You gotta be kidding we’re in the city. We’re no hill billy here ……Let me know when you switch back.

  66. avatar

I am very disappointed that your station has changed to country music. I have listened for many years to 94.7 because it was easy listening music for all ages. I no longer listen to your station & have removed it from my favourites. What a shame! Hopefully with all the public comments you have received, your station will reconsider & go back to smooth jazz!!!! Let’s hope!!!!

  67. avatar

It’s such a shame that we have lost this station. I was under the impression that the demographic that listened to the Wave was one that spent more money on average and appealed to advertisers. Thankfully, there is Jazz FM 91.1 from Toronto, however I liked the option of having smooth jazz from a local source. I do not listen to country music at all, quite frankly, in seems more suitable to an AM format. I rarely listen to music streamed from the internet so that option likely won’t be of use to me. I will miss The Wave as I drive around town and in my home. What a very unfortunate choice the station has made.

  68. avatar

Did someone at your station have a serious “brain cramp”It was a very bad decision to do what they did.

  69. avatar

What can I say…..Country sucks, Smooth Jazz rules! Moving to 91.1 for some intelligent music. Good luck!

  70. avatar

I honestly can’t believe that this “country music” (an oxymoron) has usurped Smooth Jazz on 94.7! Sad reflection on our culture. I agree completely with Len Gauthier – brain cramp!!

  71. avatar

Are you kidding? Biggest mistake ever! There is nothing new and exciting about country music. Same old thing, it’s hurting music. Smooth Jazz is sexy, interesting and wildly lovely. Please consider your decision at the ivory towers.

  72. avatar

Really, really, really, WTF. Whom ever decided to switch, your an idiot.

  73. avatar

My car does not have internet (yet). I do not wish to turn on my computer to listen to music at home (that is why I bought a sterio…. duh). I can’t believe that country music is soo popular that it was a wise choice to switch programming. I don’t know. Maybe I am not cool but at least I’am smooth.

  74. avatar

Yes, one more to be very dissapointed on not having Smooth Jazz on air any more. I believe Smooth Jazz came from Hamilton but it had fans all over Southern Ontario and it has allready being missed. I`ve allways listened at all the times, on my way to work, and at home. I guess Hamilton doesn`t realize the terrible lost. They should be proud thanks to Smooth Jazz they had top rating. PLEASE WE NEED SMOOTH JAZZ BACK!

    Thanks, Sole.

  75. avatar

The message is obviousl, except to the oblivious. As big a mistake, maybe bigger, than when Coca-Cola brought out New Coke.

  76. avatar

What can be done to have smooth jazz back on the air? I need it for my sanity on the way home from work, not to mention the other times in the day when I listened to it. This was a terrible error in judgement.

  77. avatar

Whatever the business decision was that drove you to switch from an excellent format that works so well while at work or home to one that is as many have stated so predicatble and repetitive is beyond comprehension, but I’m not in the biz so I am sure there were valid reasons.

Nonetheless, how many times can someone listen to songs about “hearts broken, truck not workin and my dogs hurtin” music before you start sticking pins in your eyes? (lol)

Please reconsider bringing smoothjazz back to the radio airwaves. It was great as I enjoyed the background music especially at work!

    Cheers,

    Ray

  78. avatar

I cancelled my XM Radio when I found 94.7, as so I could listen to my Jazz for free on a great station with a great format. It looks like I am going to call XM up and get me connected again. What a BIG, HUGE mistake, anything but Country. You all come back now, you hear, Jed, Granny, Jethro and eley May. Nothing against Country, for those who like it.

  79. avatar

I an extremely disappointed. Smooth Jazz was my favourite station and I listed to it in my vehicle all of the time. Will simply not be convenient for me via the internet. How can we get this station back on the radio?

  80. avatar

HUGE mistake! HUGE…Country? I love my country but to give up that smooth Jazz station for country? Someone is not thinking straight. This is the only station I listen(ed) to, my dial never moved! and how am i supposed to exist without Dave Koz…I miss you so much, since August 1st my radio has not even been turned on. SOMEBODY BETTER GET MY RADIO STATION BACK!

  81. avatar

BIG,BIG, MISTAKE – what are you people thinking!!!please bring my radio station back, best jazz station ever. I loved your station, miss you where can I find you, don’t know what station to listen too anymore. Listed to the Wave all day long for many yrs. on line is not not happening…obviously whoever decided to make this decidion doesn’t have a brain!!! COUNTRY bla bla bla -GO AWAY A.S.A.P. !!!

  82. avatar

It’s the only station I listened to. I again don’t listen to the radio at all!

The reason for this is that the powers that be don’t want us to feel good, the way we do when we listed to smooth jazz.

So much of what I heard on The Wave reminded me of what it felt like when I was living in the US back in the day.

If we just listen long enough to get the names of a few sponsors, then hound them and tell them that we wouldn’t even consider buying their products because of how they are supporting what has been stolen from us it will hurt them where it matters.

If we all send regular hate mail to the station manager until they change back, the switch back will come sooner.

It’s are only recourse. If they don’t sell advertising it cant work.

It’s up to us to get our station back.

  83. avatar

I cannot begin to tell you how disappointed I am to learn that 94.7 has gone country. I have been away on vacation and upon return found that the one station that brought calm into my world and a lift to my spirits has been silenced on the radio. Is there any consideration for showing up on another station? I loved the announcers and the sound. Unique!!!

  84. avatar

Unfortunately for us we have to now bring cds or ipods to the cars because we will never listen to country, new, old, or any other. What a shame Hamilton isn’t fighting for better listening music radio. There is so much trash on the other stations smooth jazz was my own little listening nirvana.

  85. avatar

Six years ago, an American friend gave a name to music I have been listening to on CD for years … “smooth jazz”. When I found Wave 94.7 Smooth Jazz, it became my driving to work; at home listening; going to sleep and waking up music station, here in Toronto. There is no other smooth jazz station in Ontario!! Country music has so many dedicated band widths, another one is bound to fail. I do not enjoy listening to country music, so I have tuned out Wave 94.7 Country. I would be the dedicated listener and contributer I have been for the past six years, if you “change the format of Wave 94.7 back to Smooth Jazz.”

  86. avatar

I cannot stand country music. I was shocked when it came on my favorite station the first time. I was hoping it was some air-wave mix-up. I miss Smooth Jazz tremendously.

  87. avatar

It’s good to see I’m not the only seriously disappointed in the format change. How does one feed a web based radio station though a high end stereo system?

  88. avatar

I am more than seriously dissapointed with this switch to country it let us look as if we are in texas USA .The only smooth jazz radio station stolen from us. Every canadian and jamaican ,and even the world listen to this station and know this station .I realy don,t know what the wave is thinking of its best they play mexican music. NOW WAVE WE ARE JAZZ LOVERS NOT COUNTRY.BRING US BACK OUR SMOOTH JAZZ MUSIC, ONLINE NOT ENOUGH.I hope its not real for country music.

  89. avatar

If its wasn,t for one thing i would take them to court to have them return the dial to smooth jazz.Thats a big bash in our face

  90. avatar

I am deeply saddened that we no longer have WAVE on the radio. Could something be done to get it back on air. It is surely going to be missed by me. Please, please bring it back….

  91. avatar

I miss this jazz station. I listened in my car. Im pregnant so i loved the soothing sounds for my baby!On sundays my whole family tune in since we’re all at home.i was so unhappy when i realised it was country. have nothing against country, its just not my thing:(

  92. avatar

I’m like a lost sheep without the 94.7 Smooth Jazz since August 1st. I have no more permanent station to listen to while I’m driving, hiking, running, etc. It was heaven sent when I found 94.7 Wave in my car many years ago and then, when the signal improved and I could pick up the signal in my apartment. I only have my radios programmed to 94.7. I hope some bright minds will jump into this opportunity and give Smooth Jazz back to us!!!!

Too bad its gone. I was a regular listener. I listen almost 24/7and been listening for years. Hate to see you guys moved to internet. Not all listeners have access online especially if most of us are on the go. I never listen to country music.

I miss the WAVE as much as anyone here. It took me to work from Simcoe to Mississauga daily and brought me back home. However, to all who are calling the a return of the WAVE, the bottom line is the bottom line. This station has been losing money for 11 years now. Would any of us who own a business continue losing money for 11 years ?

Never imagined this happening. Who made this executive decision? Soooo disappointed. Please bring it back. Smooth Jazz is the best! I grew up listening to jazz. If my Dad was alive he would be devastated. Country music is depressing,”He Broke My Heart And I Broke Her Jaw”, REALLY! Can we go back to the drawing board, please….

I am very disappointed. I can’t believe a station with such a loyal following could be financially faltering for 11 years. I guess beer, pickup truck and mullet sales with be profitable for the new country format. We need to get a PBS type group to fund such a venture. Any takers? I’m in. I now too am “brokin hearted”. Crap!!!!

I seriously thought my car radio was screwed up, then I thought I was dialing the wrong radio station. Then I clued in, something good was missing and replaced with utter crap. How could this happen? Guess what? Country sucks and I’ll never listen to 94.7 ever again.

  98. avatar

I too am very disappointed that WAVE is now a country station…I would love a decent station to listen too in the car and country is not it.

At least I can listen to you on the internet.

  99. avatar

I miss 94.7 very much in my car.

Why not drop the syndicated programs, and the hosts and go with straight automation first? No weather, no news or host salaries to pay. It’s all just about the music anyway.

The station was not loosing money. Who would be stupid enough to throw money at a loosing proposition for eleven years?

There were so many of the same long time advertisers sponsoring programs. Nobody spends money on advertising that doesn’t pull customers. It was all in place and still working for all those concerned.

The long sets were getting shorter and shorter and they were playing more and more ads, especially when people were driving to and from work.

It was up running and self generating. Why start all over again? It had to have been a prosperous business.

Think of the money they are loosing now while they introduce a new format to a new audience while soliciting new advertisers with few listeners. Ad rates will sell for less because it’s just starting out.

This just doesn’t make any sense at all. Not even a warning or a chance for opposition.

They are loosing money and they will continue to do so. This will never be profitable.

Everybody needs to call the station and the new advertisers and tell them to get lost, over and over, again and again.

Don’t stop and don’t give up.

They can’t get away with killing a close friend.

It was my favourite station on the radio :-(
    Please come back to air!!!

I have been away from Toronto for over a year, arrived last Monday night and was looking forward to driving a car so I can tune to Wave 94.7 and listen to my favorite radio station. Am guessing you may have figured out how disappointed I was when I started hearing country music.
    This is so sad.

  103. avatar

It took me a while to find out that the problem was not the reception of my radio in my car… I live far and I thought I lost the reception somehow! I cannot believe you are not in the air anymore….

  104. avatar

It was my favorite music station. No way to substitute it. It is very disappointing…

  105. avatar

I was so dissappointed to say the least, it`s the only station I could listen to anytime ! The other station, I believe it`s 91.1fm is not smooth jazz, big difference for me. I still can`t believe I can`t listen to it in my car. Bring it back please !

  106. avatar

Terrible mistake ! It was our favorite station and was often tuned in during much of our weekends at home. Bad decision !

  107. avatar

Although I don’t mind country, it gets boring quite fast. Smooth Jazz was the only station I listened to other than news. It will be sorely missed. Couldn’t they at least mix it up with certain times of day devoted to smooth jazz?

  108. avatar

BRING BACK SMOOTH JAZZ on 94.7…
    SMOOTH JAZZ!
    SMOOTH JAZZ!
    SMOOTH JAZZ!
    SMOOTH JAZZ!
    SMOOTH JAZZ!
    SMOOTH JAZZ!
    SMOOTH JAZZ!
    SMOOTH JAZZ!
    SMOOTH JAZZ!

  109. avatar

    Big Mistake! It’s a shame…
Switch back to smooth jazz, the best station ever.
My car does not have internet.
    This is so sad.

    i missed 94.7 wave!

  111. avatar

As an avid listener for over 6 years, this is a terrible disappointment. I spend a lot of time in the car. 94.7 WAS preset # 1 on my radio. Not anymore alas. I thought my radio was broken when I heard COUNTRY(?!!) music coming out of my preset. Did anyone pole listeners before reaching this decision? Not impressed. Please bring back the only music I listen to on radio.

  112. avatar

I know country music is not a favourite among alot of people. But neither is that head banging crap and the club music among others. Just like you all are very upset with losing your jazz station, we Hamiltonians were just as upset over losing an FM country station to retro music. I refuse to listen to AM. I tried listening to a station in Kitchener, but couldn’t get it to come in clear here. That was the closest country station there was. I listen to alot of formats of music but country is my main choice. Hate it if you want. I never wanted to listen to jazz unless I had trouble sleeping. Everyone has their own tastes. I don’t dislike you for yours. Don’t diss me for mine.

  113. avatar

COME ON NOW,”country” are you trying to tell me that there are more country listeners around here????I’m telling you 94.7 smooth jazz is the only station that I usually listen to at home in my car, come on guys you have to bring back smooth jazz to the radio station the internet is not going to work for me!PLEASE,PLEASE return my jazz, my SMOOTH JAZZ!!!!!and as well can you tell me how you all came to this decision to switch to country,I never did hear that this was in the work and I was an everday listen!!!!!

  114. avatar

    no good no way.

  115. avatar

I found this wave94.7 2-3 years. Since then my car is locked to this station when i drive back to home after work. I found it plays best when it is dark outside. If every body is listening to this station while driving, there will be much less road rage!

I like your station very much. This format of music wins me over anything else unless i am vaccuming the house.

please poll before you decide to switch to country. I am very disappointed. Bring back the wave94.7. I lost my old friend. This is brutal. When it come back, please power it up and much more. I have trouble to get the signal at home in Vaughan.

As a city lover, your music is a must for us. This world is too busy. People has to relax a little bit.

At the end thank you for serving us!

  116. avatar

Just awful…not a country fan at all..94.7 smooth jazz was the best in my opinion now I dont have a choice and cannot find another jazz station on my dial. BOO! Will not be tuning in!
    Sincerely,
    Lost Fan

I have many channels on my car radio but the only one that I kept coming back to constantly was smoothe jazz 94.7

    Bring it back!!!!!!!!!!!
