It was announced yesterday that 820 CHAM country is back on the air, and the 820 Talk was no longer going to be speaking to Hamilton. Unfortunately, with the changes comes some job losses, including some very good friends and amazing talent. One of those guys is Jason Farr, long time friend and amazing announcer. However, with amazing talent comes opportunities and I’m sure that Jason and the others will find somewhere very soon.

The topic however is that Country Music is back. I never understood the reason it left in the first place. There were rumours for years in Hamilton that 820 CHAM was going to be going talk. The timing however was terrible (in my opinion). For the purpose of business, let’s review why!
1. At the time of 820 CHAM going talk, the FM station Country 95.3 shortly changed to Vinyl FM 95.3. The target audience to the country listeners was lost. They had NO where to go. Toronto dumped their country, and then Hamilton lost theirs. Sooooo….in business where there is a market with little or no competition, you should consider jumping on it.

2. Changing your format to cater to a size of market like Hamilton in a Talk format, was a challenge to start with. HOWEVER….it’s even more challenging when your main competitor is a radio station that has almost 100 years behind talk/news format in the City. Your going to really have a hard time to convince what little listeners there are to convert over.

The bottom line….It’s good to have a radio station feeding to the country listening audience.   Well done and welcome back 820 CHAM.
